Candidate Resources

Dear Candidate,

Congratulations on your campaign for public office in Wisconsin.

As cannabis and hemp policy continue to evolve across the Midwest, voters increasingly expect candidates to have informed, practical positions regarding cannabis reform, hemp regulation, public safety, small business opportunities, and personal freedom. Wisconsin is now surrounded by legal cannabis states, while our own residents, businesses, farmers, and consumers continue operating under uncertain and outdated policies.

The Wisconsin Cannabis Activist Network (WISCOCAN) has assembled this Candidate Resources page designed to help candidates and campaigns better understand the current landscape of cannabis and hemp policy in Wisconsin, including:

• Legislative background and current policy discussions
• Economic and agricultural impacts
• Talking points and educational materials
• Voter concerns regarding hemp-derived cannabinoids (HDC)
• Public health and regulatory considerations
• Information about decriminalization, medical cannabis, and adult-use legalization
• Opportunities to engage with constituents and advocates statewide

WISCOCAN was founded in 2011 and has worked to educate the public, assist policymakers, and connect activists, businesses, patients, veterans, farmers, and consumers throughout Wisconsin.

Cannabis reform is no longer a fringe issue. Polling consistently shows broad bipartisan support among Wisconsin voters for some form of reform, including medical access, decriminalization, and regulated adult-use markets. Neighboring states are already realizing significant economic benefits, tax revenue, and job growth while Wisconsin continues losing consumers and opportunities across state lines.

We encourage your campaign to review these resources and consider developing a thoughtful, informed position on cannabis and hemp policy as part of your platform.

If your campaign would like additional information, policy guidance, educational materials, or opportunities to connect with advocates and stakeholders, we would be happy to assist.

Thank you for your time, and best wishes on the campaign trail.
