Potential Outlooks for the Assembly in 2025
W.I.P. or Work in Progress.
Not all candidates expected to win have a public stance on cannabis, so for factors of these potential outlooks I took silence as indicator of not supporting marijuana legalization or medical cannabis.
I think the Democrats are all but assured 42 seats in the Assembly; all of those seats but 2 (two) have expressed support for legalization of adult use cannabis for Wisconsin.
I think the Republicans are all but assured 47 seats in the Assembly and I did the best I could to document their stances on cannabis.
That leaves 10 seats up to manipulate outcomes for various scenarios.
In the first scenario, I assumed all of the top 10 competitive races went to the Republicans.
In the second scenario, I assumed the projections of the major election which would result in 7 out of 10 seats going to the Democrats and 3 out of 10 going to the Republicans.
2024 Fall Election Outcome Scenario Top 10 Races by Jay SelthofnerThat leaves 10 seats that are the most competitive and will likely shake up the election and help shape the Assembly for the 2025-26 legislative session.
All 10 Democrats in these competitive races indicated support of legalizing adult use cannabis.
Democrats need to win at least 8 out of these 10 seats to win control of the Assembly.
Top 10 Most Competitive Assembly Races by Jay SelthofnerWisconsin needs elected officials who sponsored the various bills throughout past sessions and the newly elected legislators supporting reform on the campaign trail to work together towards sensible cannabis reform in a bi-partisan nature.
During election cycles, we need to put the pressure on candidates to help form The Wisconsin Cannabis Caucus if elected.
An official bipartisan state caucus can streamline cannabis reform legislation at the state level while developing and promoting sensible cannabis policy reform and work to ease the tension between political parties.
