Wied (R), Van Orden (R) and Pocan (D) co-sponsor HR 7204 Hemp Planting Predictability Act of 2026
Wisconsin’s hemp industry faces an existential threat from rushed federal legislation. On behalf of our coalition, representing thousands of individuals consisting of local farmers, retailers and consumers, we urge our congressional delegation — Sens. Ron Johnson and Tammy Baldwin, and Reps. Scott Fitzgerald, Tom Tiffany, Bryan Steil, Gwen Moore, Glenn Grothman — to co-sponsor H.R.7024 and S.3686, which will extend the federal “hemp ban” implementation by two years. We also want to extend a message of gratitude to Reps. Tony Wied, Mark Pocan and Derrick Van Orden for their support on these bills.
Current federal proposals could reclassify 95% of hemp products as scheduled substances, treating wellness supplements like heroin. This would collapse Wisconsin’s domestic supply chain, break contracts for farmers currently making planting decisions and jeopardize thousands of local jobs.
These bills provide a vital two-year extension to the current moratorium. This “breathing room” allows the Wisconsin Legislature to finalize common-sense state regulations — including strict safety standards and age limits — without the industry being destroyed by a rushed federal timeline.
We are not asking to avoid regulation, but for the time to get it right. We must protect Wisconsin’s economy and the tens of thousands of citizens who rely on these products. Please support H.R.7024 and S.3686.
