AD 48: Andrew Hysell (D) vs Lisa Rubrich (R)
The 48th Assembly district of Wisconsin is located in south-central Wisconsin, the district comprises northeastern suburban and exurban areas of the Madison area within northeast Dane County and the towns of Elba and Portland in southwest Dodge County. It includes the city of Sun Prairie, and parts of the city of Madison including the Ridgewood, Mayfair Park, Burke Heights and High Crossing neighborhoods. The district also contains East Towne Mall.
The Democratic nominee, attorney Andrew Hysell, emerged from the largest primary fields in the state, defeating four other candidates to face Republican Lisa Rubrich, a supervisor in the town of Burke.
Andrew Hysell (D-Sun Prairie)
Andrew Hysell is a resident of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and lives in the Smiths Crossing neighborhood. He graduated from Pius XI high school in Milwaukee and Carroll University in Waukesha. After college, Andrew lived and worked in Madison for the senate and assembly Democrats, first as an intern and then serving as a legislative aide. At night, he organized phone banks to raise small dollar donations to support Wisconsin Democratic candidates.
Andrew started working at an early age, first with a paper route and later at McDonald’s and Denny’s. To help pay his tuition, Andrew worked his way through college. Later, he attended law school at night while working full time.
Andrew graduated from Georgetown Law and works as an attorney at Lawton & Cates, S.C.
Andrew Hysell from Sun Prairie is a known cannabis activist.
Hysell said he would not compromise on “fundamental rights” but believes there are ample opportunities to find common ground on marijuana legalization, public school funding and a BadgerCare expansion.
Local activists and supporters of reform are very excited to see him run for State Assembly.
Please follow his campaign on facebook page and visit his official website for more details on this candidate.

vs
Lisa Rubrich (R-Sun Prairie)
I contacted her facebook campaign for her stance on marijuana reform with no reply. She did not repsond to the ACLU questionnaire either and there are no public statements from the candidate about cannabis reform I could find. This is one of the strongest Democrat districts so I am not going to spend too much time chasing down Rubrich.

In the event that we end up with divided government in the 2024-25 legislation session, the official formation of The Wisconsin Cannabis Caucus would be a must first step towards reform. The official establishment of this Caucus will represent the growing, bipartisan support in Wisconsin.
Although session as ended we still urge you to contact your elected officials. The top four action alerts are still functionable on The Wisconsin Cannabis Activist Action Network for you immediate use.
