AD 77: Renuka Mayadev (D) is Unopposed

| | |

The 77th Assembly district of Wisconsin is located in south-central Wisconsin, the district is contained entirely within central Dane County. It includes the village of Shorewood Hills, the western portion of downtown and the near west neighborhoods of the city of Madison. The district contains all of the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus and Edgewood College, as well as landmarks such as the Wisconsin Historical Society, the State Street pedestrian mall, Camp Randall Stadium, the Kohl Center, the University of Wisconsin–Madison Arboretum, Henry Vilas Zoo, UW Health University Hospital, and historic Forest Hill Cemetery.

An open seat for a strong Democrat District. A three way Democrat Primary and clearly the winner was Mayadev with almost 50% of the vote. Congratulations on winning the seat as no Republican dare even run in this district.

Renuka Mayadev (D-Madison)

There are 99 state Assembly seats and 16 state Senate seats on the ballot this November. The ACLU of Wisconsin sent a questionnaire to all candidates and published their answers on August 21st.

We are not surprised that she answered YES to the ACLU question: Do you support the legalization, regulation, and taxation of marijuana for recreational use by adults 21 and over in Wisconsin?

Candidate Cannabis Statement:

Prohibition has not worked in Wisconsin. Criminalization has broken families, locked up Wisconsinites, and kept many of our neighbors from reaching their full potential. As a policy professional and a child advocate, we need to implement criminal justice reform here in Wisconsin. Our communities of color are over incarcerated and the criminalization of marijuana perpetuates the cycle. Black Wisconsinites are 4 times more likely to be arrested for simple possession than their white counterparts. Legalization is one way we can address over-incarceration in our state.

I will provide you additional 2024 Wisconsin State Election coverage throughout the campaign season. This next election is extremely important for marijuana reform and I will continue to bring you information as more candidates make their political moves.

In the event that we end up with divided government in the 2024-25 legislation session, the official formation of The Wisconsin Cannabis Caucus would be a must first step towards reform. The official establishment of this Caucus will represent the growing, bipartisan support in Wisconsin.

Although session as ended we still urge you to contact your elected officials. The top four action alerts are still functionable on The Wisconsin Cannabis Activist Action Network for you immediate use.
