Congressman Tiffany (R-WI) on rescheduling cannabis
Now that Congressman Tom Tiffany is going to make a run for Governor, the Republicans in his district are now weighing their odds at taking this congressional seat. His 7th Congressional District seat is a safe place to be a Republican Incumbent and Tiffany could have probably finish out his career as a congressman. Didn’t he tease his party with state runs in the past (and tease the GOP politicians patiently waiting for a seat to be vacant so they can move up, you see Republicans generally do not challenge Republican Incumbents). The 2nd half of the State Senate new the new maps will take place in 2026 also, and there are some moves to be made “UP NORTH”. So many people were waiting to see if Tiffany makes a move or stays a congressman, now that things are in motion, watch for some movers to start moving.
Tiffany has been making some news with his hints of a Governor run throughout 2025, so that got me paying attention to him a little more and the things he says. He has been a fixture of opposition in cannabis reform at the state and federal level since I have been paying attention. Recently he was on the DrydenWire and well, just listen to this guy as they talk about “his understanding” of how cannabis impacts the young males brains and spouts off the usual prohibitionist type deflect language, but yet has no idea about the actual rescheduling process which is part of the congressional law making job, part of his job! I am still labeling this guy a prohibitionist and not a real friend in the cannabis reform movement.
A recent Americans for Safe Access article highlights the current rescheduling process and in part, the report states:
Bottom line: The only realistic way a president can affect scheduling is by directing agencies to use the CSA process already in motion — the same process President Biden initiated. However, he (Trump) cannot start a new rescheduling process until the current one is completed.
Also relevant: House Republicans have attempted to choke off that very process through appropriations. The FY2026 Commerce, Justice, Science (CJS) bill includes language that would block rescheduling activity:
Sec. 607: “None of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available by this Act may be used to reschedule marijuana… or remove marijuana from the schedules….”
But I highly doubt Tiffany will ever say the truth about his parties current choke hold on the rescheduling process and at this point it is very doubtful he has given the actual rescheduling process the time of day it deserves.

As a Wisconsin State Senator, Rep. Tiffany opposed the decriminalization of marijuana, saying: ““I find it outrageous that he [Governor Tony Evers] claims to be ‘for the children’ when we are beginning to understand the impact of marijuana on the brain, especially for young people.”
